Prof. Dr. Wolf-Dietrich Brettshneider
Professor at Universität Paderborn, Department of Sport and Health
Prof. Dr. Wolf-Dietrich Brettschneider has more than 30 years of experience doing research in the field of youth participation in sports.
He retired from his position as professor and chair for the Sport Science Department at the University of Paderborn but is still engaged in research on the contribution of sport activity to adolescent development and conducting health related intervention projects for young people. Prof. Dr. Brettschneider previously held professorships at the German Sport University of Cologne, the University of Hamburg, and the Free University of Berlin. Prof. Dr. Brettschneider who is well-known and highly reputed in the scientific community is author, co-author, or editor of 14 books and has published about 200 articles in national and international journals.
He was Vice-President of the International Association for Physical Education in Higher Education (AIESEP). For a period of four years he was member of the Board of Directors of the National Institute of Sport Sciences in Germany.
He was also member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Deutschen Olympischen Sportbund (DOSB), the Executive Board of the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE) and the Editorial Board of several national and international journals and book series.
He gave keynote addresses on all continents and was awarded several international prizes, among them the Cagigal lecture in Atlanta, the Prince Philip’s Lecture in London and the IOC President’s Prize for his work on young people’s involvement in high performance sport.
